Hi everyone!

My name is Brent, I'm the designer behind the Melbourne jewellery label Depths of the Never Never (www.depthsofthenevernever.com.au) which has been talked about in this blog Smiley I thought I'd post a little info on a new project my partner and I (CJ Baxter of the fashion label Twisted Fig www.twistedfig.com.au) have been working on and are about to launch.

We are opening a shop!
A very exciting shop indeed, a shop that focuses on selling all things Australian and hand made.  Our shop, called Limerence, is located in Belgrave, at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria.  It will be the first of its kind in the area and will house a variety of amazing artists and designers (Citizens of Elysium, Greg Mann Jewellery, Hand.Hook.Yarn, Twisted Fig and so many more) with a focus on sustainable fashion choices. We are very very excited!

So you should defiantly plan a trip out to see us and come and check out some amazing work.  The other reason I am posting is to invite you all to our official opening which will be taking place on Friday August 13th from 6 - 9pm at the shop (see invitation for more details)!   Anyway,  hope to see you at some point in our little shop Smiley

I hereby cordially register my interest in such an event. Obviously, y'all don't know me, but I'm hoping to remedy that.

I don't have nearly as many random bits and pieces as I once did (girlfriend culled my collection...) but I'm sure before too long, and hopefully by the time one of these gets underway again, that will be fixed. I'm on the Sunshine Coast, but I do have a Go Card.

So I bought this little ol' wall clock from a tip for eff all and pulled it apart. Some very pretty bits inside. I decided the coil springs would make nice christmas trees, so my next project is to craft a wee steampunk fairy to put on top.

I'm figuring she'll have a button-down shirt and cinch, with nice big puffy skirt. That way I only have to blag a head and torso.

For the wings, I'm hoping some nice ornate clock hands will look suitable, in a dragonfly kinda way.

Now for the beggin' a favour portion of the story: anyone got the know-how to make aforementioned wings... flap? I had a theory involving a small hammer-and-bell alarm motor I <cough> destroyed and a battery pack hidden under the skirt, but I'm not really as savvy as I like to believe.

I'll post pics as the project progresses. Look forward to hearing any input.

Too-rah!
Lofty

I thought everyone would like to peruse this review of The Steampunk World's Fair that took place last weekend. The review is brought to us by The Unusual Times, the webzine dedicated to the world's most unusual gin, Hendrick's, which I highly recommend subscribing to.

Anyway, the review with many pics can be found here

I did the ordering thing from etsy once.. $60US and 2wks shipping for a myriad of clock parts, with most of it completely unusable.

i'd rather take my chances at the op shops... or alternatively flogging mechano sets and painting the shit out of the plastic cogs. lol.

yea I have a local thrift shop holding anything that comes in broken for me and an antiques shop owner is kindly searching through his old stock.  Must be patient I guess.

Kali gave me a good idea which was going to the local op shops to see if you could take some broken clocks off their hands. i have managed to pick up some cool old casings and even found brass bits and bobs once taken apart.

and the dress code for PB is Spiffy.
