The Maiden Voyage

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Prometheus Bound launched with a bang (like a faulty zeppelin, only with less death). The night got off to an early start, with patrons arriving as soon as the doors opened. DJ Emmelene got the music underway with a great oldschool goth set. Aviatrix Tinkerbell followed up with an eccelctic and dancable set, and made the piratical types very happy. Saahirah Rayvn went on at around 10, performing a 20-minute show incorporating fan, parasol and her famed swords, to much acclaim.

Aviatrix Tinkerbell kept things rolling (and people dancing) until DJ α took over with a very respectable deathrock/batcave set. After dealing with minor technical issues, HistoriOnyx awed and confused the crowd from about 11 with their own brand of piston-driven audio-visual hallucinatory mayhem. Their debut was well recieved by the equally eccentric mix of PB patrons. A screening of Dr Steel’s propaganda DVD Building a Utopian Playland was interrupted at a critical moment by an unresolvable technical hitch, but DJ Insania saved the day with a marathon industrial/EBM dance set. DJs α and Aviatrix Tinkerbell returned around 1:30 for a tag-team set to close out the night with old favourites, new discoveries, and requests that kept people glued to the floor til close.

There was a great atmosphere all night, and the PB crew were humbled by the time and effort many of our patrons took to look as smashing as they could. Many patrons commented on how good the bar staff, DJs, venue and Door Bitch were, and hopes for a return were voiced, ranging from pleading with puppy eyes to threats of extravagent death.

Sadly, Damned Soles were unable to make it, but our jewellery vendor, Wolve’s Hoard, had a successful night hawking his various shiny wares, as well as doubling as a gleaming megastar roadie. The door prizes, including a unique jewellery-art piece, Mechanicus Cross donated by Wolve’s Hoard, and various CDs and merchandise from Crash Frequency, was drawn late, and the winners were very pleased. We hope that everyone through the door managed to recieve a Dr Steel DVD and brainwashing lollipop, a Trash Video voucher, and a copy of the Antipodean Steampunk Annual 2008 (feel free to email us for a copy of the PDF).

We’re thrilled that everyone had such a great time and we’ll see you for the Clockwork Hearts Extravaganza on the 14th of February 2009.
